Short wave radio frequencies are used primarily by Civil and military HF (high frequency) voice services. Weather services are broadcast on short wave frequencies as well.
Most of the time, the normal use of radios will not include listening to short wave radio signals.
Am Fm Radios:
Again, modern technology has allowed the combining of Am, Fm and even Short Wave frequencies to be housed in the same radio. Radios with variety of frequencies are on the market which will appeal to just about everyone.
